Ms. Kulkarni is Senior Environmental Engineer with GSI Environmental Inc. and has over 15 years of experience in engineering and environmental consulting. She has served as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI for numerous Department of Defense (DoD)-sponsored research projects that apply innovative strategies to characterize and treat contaminants at a wide range of sites. These include the design, implementation, and evaluation of novel remediation technologies for the treatment of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in both groundwater (e.g., colloidal gas aphrons (CGAs), enhanced contact plasma, sonolysis, novel sorbents), as well as soil (e.g., in-situ soil flushing, emerging destructive technologies). Additionally, she has extensive professional experience in methods to evaluate and enhance Natural Source Zone Depletion (NSZD) at hydrocarbon sites, specializing in thermal monitoring (Thermal NSZD) and temperature enhancements of biodegradation.
Ms. Kulkarni manages complex, technically challenging projects with extensive collaborations with prestigious research institutions, universities, industry, as well as government organizations. She has also been active in developing guidance documents and standards through industry-wide groups such as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC), and the National Groundwater Association (NGWA). In addition to publishing >25 papers in various peer-reviewed journals, she serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for Remediation Journal and was recently awarded the “40 Under 40” Award from the Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES).
