Joel Jacobson is a Principal Hydrogeologist at GSI’s Missoula, MT office. He has more than 15 years of experience in the groundwater and environmental fields, with his primary expertise being in hydrogeologic characterization and numerical modeling for mining, oil and gas, and industrial clients located around the U.S. and internationally.
Mr. Jacobson’s technical experience includes development and refinement of site conceptual models; design and calibration of numerical groundwater models; statistical analysis of field collected data; and design and implementation of field data collection events including well installation, aquifer testing, and water quantity/quality sampling.
Mr. Jacobson specializes in quantitative hydrogeology. He has used statistical analysis and numerical modeling to identify data gaps in site conceptual models, evaluate potential impacts from project development as well as associated mitigations, evaluate dewatering requirements and dewatering systems, assess solute transport times, aid in capture zone and monitoring well location analysis, refine and evaluate site conceptual models, and as a predictive tool for groundwater contamination and remedial design evaluation. He is experienced with a variety of different saturated (e.g., MODFLOW) and unsaturated (e.g., HYDRUS) modeling codes.
With a diverse experience in different geographic and geologic settings as well as different industries, Mr. Jacobson brings unique problem-solving skills to projects involving hydrogeology and groundwater modeling, contaminant transport, and groundwater resources. He has routinely been involved in preparation of work plans, technical reports, and presentation of complex material to project stakeholders on behalf of clients.
