Ms. Smith is a Senior Associate Geologist with GSI Environmental Inc. She has 20 years of experience in all aspects of environmental characterization, restoration, and risk management. A environmental scientist with extensive experience, her work has ranged from data management and visualization to full‐scale restoration program design and implementation. Ms. Smith has managed projects for commercial, institutional, and municipal clients under federal (CERCLA and RCRA), state, and local regulations, with particular expertise in hydrogeologic and geochemical investigation, in situ groundwater remediation, Brownfields redevelopment, air quality and vapor intrusion analysis, program optimization, and site closure strategies. She has served as Project/Program Manager and Technical Lead at over a dozen CERCLA Superfund sites in the San Francisco Bay Area, remediating chlorinated solvents commingled with petroleum hydrocarbons and solvent stabilizers such as 1,4‐dioxane. Several of her projects have received ‘No Further Action’ designations for unrestricted site use from the regulatory agency, the highest level of reuse possible. Ms. Smith favors multi‐disciplinary approaches to understand complex systems and problems, and uses a combination of technical expertise, strategic analysis, creativity, and common sense in response to each challenge presented. She is at the forefront of the movement to implement smarter, greener, and more transparent environmental restoration projects, and was a founding Board member and past President of the Sustainable Remediation Forum (SURF), a non‐profit organization working to incorporate sustainability principles into remediation practices.
