Dr. Scofield is a Senior Principal with GSI Environmental Inc. He has more than 40 years of experience performing human health risk assessment in support of site remediation, air emission, and due diligence projects in the United States and abroad. He also has extensive experience performing human health risk assessments and exposure assessments for chemicals in consumer products. Dr. Scofield has provided expert technical support for litigation in site-related matters and product-related matters. Dr Scofield has worked extensively with USEPA and California State regulatory agencies.
He has managed or performed more than 500 human health risk assessments for numerous types of sites involving chemical releases to soil and groundwater including, PFAS releases, vapor intrusion, petroleum spills, manufactured gas plants, agricultural chemicals, landfills, and other waste disposal or release sites. Many of the projects have been performed under Superfund, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), State site management programs, or State-administered Brownfield redevelopment programs. In support of litigation, Dr. Scofield evaluated health risks associated with chemical releases to soil and groundwater, air releases, workplace exposures, as well as consumer product exposures. He has also performed and reviewed multi-pathway risk assessments for diesel exhaust emissions, municipal and hazardous waste incinerators, and air emissions from industrial process stacks. In the area of product safety, Dr. Scofield has completed over 600 risk assessments for chemicals in consumer products, most being evaluations under California’s Proposition 65.
Dr. Scofield has taught and lectured extensively on risk assessment and has served on peer review committees for the U.S. Department of Defense and the State of California. He was a member of the committee that developed the ASTM Standard, Risk Based Corrective Action (RBCA) for Petroleum Release Sites, the National Research Council Committee on Natural Attenuation, and the committee that developed the ITRC Guidance in Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons.
