⭐ Last week our very own Philip Goodrum, Ph.D., DABT was privileged to serve on a Science Advisory Panel for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Program, which expects to fund up to six research programs, including early career investigators, that responded to a solicitation entitled, “Development of Innovative Approaches to Assess the Toxicity of Chemical Mixtures.” The panel convened during the week of Feb 15-18, 2022 to provide feedback to the Agency on each application received in response to the Request for Applications (RFA, Oct 8 – Dec 8, 2021).
EPA’s goal with this RFA is to develop data, tools, and strategies that integrate in vitro, in silico, and/or non-mammalian in vivo methods that can contribute to decision-making science associated with toxicity evaluation and human health assessment of chemical mixtures. Examples of chemical mixtures that are of current public health concern that USEPA identified include per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), phthalates, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and disinfection by-products (DBPs).
