Version 1.9.0

An updated version of the USG-Transport code (version 1.9.0) has been released. Please go to the following link at GSI’s website to download the software at https://www.gsienv.com/product/modflow-usg/.

USG-Transport is an enhancement of the public domain MODFLOW-USG code to include simulation of solute transport. The code solves for transport of multiple solute species in the flow-field derived by a MODFLOW-USG simulation. Flow and transport through the Groundwater Flow (GWF) domain representing the porous medium and the Connected Linear Network (CLN) domain representing linear features such as fractures, conduits, streams or channels are fully coupled. Density coupling of flow and transport is also simulated for saltwater intrusion evaluations.

Version 1.0.0 of USG-Transport was released in October 2017. Later version releases included documentation and code for several additional capabilities, and bug fixes to the code and documentation. The major update for Version 1.9.0 is the inclusion of double precision files for input of heads or output of heads, drawdowns and concentrations. This version also includes bug fixes and updates to the documentation. The readme file that is included with the download details the enhancements and changes made in each version following the initial release of Version 1.0.0.

Installation of a USEPA UIC Class VI injection well for injection and permanent storage of CO2 will require a baseline environmental assessment and monitoring program.

GSI is familiar with characterizing pre-injection environmental conditions, including fluid chemistry and the relative abundance and origin of subsurface CO2, and monitoring these conditions over time to detect and evaluate a change that could be indicative of an environmental impact associated with well operations.

This week Jonathan M. Skaggs, PG presented at a Kindergarten class on local geology, rock sample show and tell, and went on a field trip to the school playground to see the Balcones Fault. “It was so fun and rewarding! The kids were very excited and several announced that they would now like to be geologists when they grow up. Mission accomplished!” Jonathan M. Skaggs, PG
